FORESIGHT™ Wins Silver at Sensors Expo & Conference

FINAL RELEASE - Version 2.0

Ottawa, Canada - June 20, 2007

FORESIGHT™, a fiber optic distributed strain and temperature sensor recently announced by OZ Optics Limited, was declared a Silver Award winner by Questex Media Group, Inc. The award was announced June 13, 2007 at the Sensors Expo & Conference being held at the Donald E. Stephens Conference Centre in Rosemount, IL.

Melanie Martella, Executive Editor of Sensors presented awards in four categories honouring the most exciting new products on display at the show. New product nominations and entries were judged on the basis of potential impact, application, distinctiveness, timeliness, and availability. "The awards program recognizes the companies that are truly at the forefront of innovation and leadership in the sensors industry," said Martella in a news release. Choosing the winners from the exceptional pool of candidates was very difficult - there are some truly remarkable products out there. I offer hearty congratulations to the winners."

About FORESIGHT™

The new Fiber Optic Distributed Strain and Temperature Sensor (DSTS) uses Brillouin scattering in optical fibers to measure changes simultaneously in both temperature and strain along the length of a standard, low-cost telecommunications optical fiber. By wrapping or embedding a fiber inside a structure, users can detect when the structure is being strained or heated/cooled and allow the problem to be corrected before failure occurs. Such monitoring capability is invaluable in critical structures where failure could represent loss of lives or millions of dollars. The new system is ideal for temperature and strain monitoring of oil & gas pipelines, bridges, dams, security fences and power lines. Brillouin sensors are excellent for detecting corrosion, buckling and micro cracks in large structures.
