Polarization Dependent Loss Test Sets

OZ Optics Limited, a world leading supplier of fiber optic products for existing and next-generation optical networks, introduces a Polarization Dependent Loss (PDL) test system, capable of measuring as little as 0.005dB of PDL.

The system utilizes a polarization scrambler to randomly sweep through all possible polarizations. A detector module carefully measures the transmitted signal while the polarization is changing. The difference in the signal during the test is the PDL value.

The PDL test system works for all wavelengths from 1290nm to 1620nm. Any power fluctuations from the source are carefully monitored and subtracted from the reading to ensure measurement accuracy. Measurements can be made in less than one second.The results are reported on a touch screen display using the Window CET operating environment, and are stored in a spreadsheet format for easy reporting and analysis. This makes the system a truly useful system for manufacturing and quality control.
